Every year the dark Amsterdam winter is literally enlightened by the Amsterdam Light Festival. This year the Amsterdam Light Festival is held from the 1st of December till the 22th of January and can be visited every day from 17:00 till 22:00 in the evening. The festival features a variety of LED-light artworks along two different routes. One of the routes is a walking route, the other is a route for boats. The artworks that you’ll see are selected from submissions international artists. The two different routes both have their own theme.
The walking route is called “Illuminade” and you can visit it free of charge! You’ll find the walking route between night life area Rembrandtplein square and Artis Zoo. The theme of this route is biomimicry, that’s a difficult word for solutions to human problems inspired by nature. If you’re in Amsterdam this winter make sure not to miss out on this free route!
If you like the walking route, make sure not to miss out on the boat route! The artworks on this route can be seen from the streets, but are best seen from a boat. Check out how artists use the city of Amsterdam as a canvas for their artworks. The theme for the boat route called “Water Colors” is ‘a view on Amsterdam’. As you might have guessed every artist did interpreted this theme in his/her own way which leads to a vast variety of artworks you don’t want to miss out on!
