Leidseplein is a one of the most famous and busiest squares of Amsterdam for nightlife, entertainment, shopping and central location for public transport. It is located at the southern end of Amsterdam’s central canal ring, only a few footsteps away from the main entrance of the amazing Vondelpark. This is one of Amsterdams best parks. In addition, the Leidseplein faces one of the busiest streets of Amsterdam, the Leidsestraat. The translation that fits the best for Leidseplein would be Leiden Square. Way back in history the square Leidseplein was high street all the way to the town of Leiden.

The location from Leidseplein is nowadays still one of the most centrally places in Amsterdam. This why you can easily, get everywhere in Amsterdam in a maximum of 30 minutes. There are many opportunities, like several tram and bus stops, a taxi stand, parking garages and canal cruise stops.

Leidseplein Attractions

On the Leidse square you won’t get bored! During the day and evening it’s very likely that you will face street performers on the square. During the summer months season, one side of Leidseplein  filled up with a the large terraces and that is surrounded with several cosy bars lining the square. How to get to Leidseplein

Leidseplein is one of the most central places of Amsterdam. This means that you can hop on from almost everywhere in Amsterdam to get there or towards your destination from departing Leidseplein.

From Amsterdam Central Station:

  • Tram 2, heading to Nieuw Sloten, stop Van Baerlestraat
  • Tram 5, heading to Amstelveen Binnenhof, stop Van Baerlestraat
  • Bus 170, heading to Uithoorn, Amstelplein, stop Museumplein
  • Bus 172, heading to Kudelstaart, stop Museumplein

For the people that are travelling by car, there is 2 minutes away from the Leidseplein a Q-park (indoor garage). Note: this Q-park (at Marnixstraat 50) is pretty expensive (€4, – €5, per hour). Leidseplein Nightlife

The nightlife at Leidseplein is incredible diverse and centers around the area of the Leidseplein. There is literally something for everybody. If you up for a night out you should try the famous music such as Paradiso or Melkweg. Or try out the brown cafés and typical Irish pubs. There are as well smaller nightclubs,  in the street that lead to the square. Keep in mind that the prices in the cafés that centers the square have on average for Amsterdam a bit higher prices for a drink.

When you’re up more up for a fancy night out, pay a visit to the DeLaMar Theater. Or for classy night out the Stadsschouwburg, is an amazing city theater. It is located right in the opposite direction of the bus and tram stop at the Leidseplein.
